6 important pages that you need to create for your new blog

Pages that you should add for a new blog

If you are starting a new blog, you should always consider adding a couple of pages before publishing the first post. No, I don’t have all these pages in my blog, and all are not required.

Also, Google will still show your blog to users. But, adding these pages will help you to improve the user experience and also helps to decrease the bounce rate.

There are millions of blogs with thousands of published posts on the same topic. It is tough to get on the first page of google. But if you do and if you are getting clicks, it is your duty to give a good site experience to the user like a good logo, good navigation, mobile-friendly pages etc.

Speed is another important point to consider. If the site takes 5-10 seconds to load, most users will close it and move to a different website.

Similarly, there are few pages like about me, contact form, etc. that should be added to a blog. All of these things, logo, website navigation, pages, etc. make a website complete and it helps to gain the trust of the users. Users will spend more time on your website and that will eventually improve ranking on google and other search engines.

How to create a page:

I am assuming that you are using WordPress for your blog. It is pretty easy to add a page in WordPress. For that,

  • Go to your admin Dashboard
  • On the left navigation bar, click on pages
  • Click on the ‘Add New’ button on top
  • Enter a page name and permalink
  • Hit publish

Now let’s check the pages that you want your users to know.

About me page:

It is one of the most important pages on a site. Most viewer likes to know about the writer of a blog. It is about building trust. If I am reading a blog and the writer is recommending something, I always want to check about the writer if I can trust him/her or not.

You don’t have to put your real name and photo always. You can also create your about-me page anonymously. Just write a few lines about you and why you started this blog etc. But, using your own photo and your own name has more advantages.

About me’ or ’About us’ is the first page that you can think about after starting your blog.

Contact page:

Contact page has many advantages. If your writing is good, or for any other reason, someone may want to contact you.

You might get an invitation for freelance writing, or for sponsored posts or even for a part-time job. This page might open a lot of opportunities for you. Also, you might get spam emails. So, make sure not to click every link that you got in your mailbox.

You can create a simple contact me page using free WordPress plugins. Many WordPress themes also provide a contact me page.

404 page:

This is the page for any invalid page link in your website. In web development world, 404 is an error code and its meaning is not found.  If you are using WordPress or any other website builder site, this page will already be there.

By default, this page contains a link that points to the home page of your site. You can be more creative and add some creative illustrations/images to this page.

For example, if you try to enter any invalid address on amazon, it will show you one different dog photo each time. This is not a major page and it is fine if you want to use the default one provided by the theme.

TOC page:

TOC or ’terms of conditions’ page include guidelines and rules for your sites. This page says that users must abide by the rules and other conditions defined on this page to use the site. You can include rules, guidelines, copyright-related information, etc. on this page.

Privacy policy:

Similar to TOC, the privacy policy is another must-have page for websites. This page includes what data is collected by the website, how you will store the personal information, and how it will be used, this information is shared with any third party or not.If it is shared, you must mention that third party etc.

Normally websites collect user emails, name, cookies etc. and many advertising platforms also collects user cookies. So, having this webpage is always a good idea for a blog.

Disclaimer page:

If your blog is earning money by displaying advertising or by affiliate links, this page is required. You can mention how your blog is making money. If you have any other products, you can also mention it here.

Other pages:

Optionally, your blog might need some other pages like if you are offering some freelance service, or if you are looking for freelance writers who can write on your blog, you can create pages for these.

Page links are shown in the header and footer. Header is the top part and footer is the bottom part of a website. The content is placed in between. You can place the important pages in the header and others in the footer. For example, TOC, Privacy policy etc. are less important pages and these pages can be placed in the footer area. Similarly, ’Contact’, ’About me’, ’Hire me’ etc are important pages and these pages can be placed in the header.
